This week’s heavy rain could not derail the East Bladen vs. West Bladen Powder Puff Football game that was scheduled for Tuesday night. Organizers moved the contest from the football field inside to the East Bladen gym to escape the weather and instead of football, girls’ teams from the two schools competed on the basketball court.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes clubs from both schools sponsored the event led by Cheryl West of East Bladen and Sherry Autry of West Bladen.

The girls from West Bladen and East Bladen squared off in team-oriented contests of free throw shooting, speed lay-ups and 3-point shooting. East Bladen won all three events, but the real winner for the night was Bladen Crisis.

According to Mrs. West, 85 cans of food and $300 will be donated to Bladen Crisis on behalf of the East Bladen and West Bladen FCA clubs.

“Thanks to all that came and supported or just prayed for this event to be a success,” said Mrs. West. “I so very much appreciate Tripp Lancaster and Rev. Darrell Copeland for opening up the event with words of wisdom and Kyle Tatum for motivating the kids before the game. Also a big thank you to Joey Autry for his message after and leading us in prayer for the canned goods and money.”

Mrs. West went on to thank Mrs. Autry, “for her willingness to step out and help start this annual event for East and West with me.”
