GREENSBORO – East Bladen’s Eian Hines finished second by just ¾ of an inch Friday in the North Carolina High School Association State Long Jump finals at North Carolina A&T State University.

Eian Hines leaped 23 feet, 2.25 inches to finish second behind Jayhlen Washington of North Brunswick’s winning jump of 23 feet, 3 inches. Eian’s twin brother Ethan Hines finished fifth in the Long Jump with a jump of 22 feet, 7.75 inches.

East Bladen’s 4X100 Meter Relay team finished third in their event with a time of 43.39 seconds. Forest Hills won the relay with a time of 42.24 seconds and Wilson Beddingfield was second. Members of the East Bladen 4X100 Meter Relay team are junior Travaris Carter and seniors C. J. Murphy, Eian Hines and Ethan Hines.

Eagle senior Atlas Goss finished sixth in the Discus with a throw of 135 feet, 6 inches. Zane Johnson of Forbush won the event with a throw of 148 feet, 9 inches.

The Eagle boys tied for tenth place in the state meet with 21 points. North Brunswick, led by Washington’s 40 points, won the meet with 69 points. Washington won the Triple Jump, Long Jump, and 110 Meter Hurdles. He also ran the second leg of the Scorpions winning 4×200 Meter Relay team.
