The filing period for the 2016 election is off to a slow but steady start as candidates are making their way to the Bladen County Board of Elections Office in Elizabethtown.

The filing period ends at noon on Monday, Dec. 21. The primary will be held in March.

As of Thursday afternoon, Sabrina Murchison of Clarkton had filed for democratic primary for the Bladen County Board of Education District 1 seat. She will challenge fellow Dem. Glenn C. McKoy who also filed for election to that seat. McKoy has served previously on the Board of Education from 2012 to 2014.

In the NC District Court Judge District 13, Scott Ussery has filed seeking re-election to his seat on the court.

Others who have already filed include:

Incumbent Dem. Wilbur Smith Jr. who filed seeking re-election to the Board of Education District 2 seat and incumbent Dem. Bonnel Walker who filed for re-election to the Board of Education District 3 seat.

Incumbent Bladen County Commissioners G. Micahel Cogdell and James G. “Jimmie” Smith have filed for re-election to their County Commissioner Countywide seats and they will be joined by fellow Dems. Pamela Benton and David Gooden. There are three County Commissioner Countywide seats available.

Dem. Ophelia Munn-Goins has filed seeking election to the Bladen County Commissioner District 1 seat and incumbent Dem. Daniel Dowless has filed for re-election to his County Commissioner District 2 seat.

In the County Commissioner District 3 race, incumbent Dem. Wayne Edge is facing a challenge from fellow Dem. Kenneth Register Jr.

In the NC House District 46 race, no one has filed seeking election to the seat vacated by Ken Waddell when he announced he would not seek re-election.

In the US House of Representatives District 7 race no one has filed seeking election to that seat which is currenly held by Republican David Rouzer.

In the NC District Court Judge District 13 race Jason Disbrow has filed seeking election to the seat held by Judge Marion Warren. Disbrow was appointed to fill the vacancy when Warren was appointed to serve as director of the NC Administrative Office of the Courts.

C. Ashley Gore has filed seeking election to the seat held by Judge Jerry Jolly.
