For passionate golfers and networkers in Charlotte, it doesn’t get much better than being a member of Myers Park Country Club.

The North Carolina Golf Panel ranks the beautiful course in southeast Charlotte as the state’s 38th best, and third-best in the Queen City behind Quail Hollow Club (No. 7) and Charlotte Country Club (No. 13). Trump National Golf Club in nearby Mooresville was 35th.

Being part of an exclusive conclave doesn’t come without a cost, of course. On this Masters weekend, there’s a buzz among some of the 1,000 or so Myers Parks golf and social members over a $27 million plan to renovate the 100-year-old club. Some longer-term members think the pending assessment will be a bit much, prompting some lively discussions. Many others are enthusiastic about the improvements.

To put the expansion in context, the club’s land, buildings and equipment were valued at about $30 million, after deprecation, while annual revenue averaged $21 million in 2018-19, according to the club’s latest tax filing.

Charlotte Agenda reported last year that Myers Park has a waiting list of more than two years for the right to pay a full membership initiation fee of $80,000 and monthly dues of $600 to $800 a month.
