“Both teams played well, and the game was much closer than the final score indicated,” said Elizabethtown Coach Tripp Lancaster.

The Bulldogs stayed within 13-10 in the opening quarter, but a 10-5 Elizabethtown second period run produced a 23-15 halftime lead. The Cougars rode a 15-7 third quarter spurt to a 38-22 lead.

Keyshawn Lewis topped the Bladenboro scoring with 8 points, and Kerron Washington followed with 7 points. Teammate Aldo Hernandez netted 5 points for the Bulldogs.

“Very proud of my guys for taking care of their part of homecoming,” continued Coach Lancaster. “It is difficult to focus with the many distractions of homecoming week, but they did a great job.”

The Cougars complete the regular season with a 5-3 record and will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s Bladen 5 Tournament at Tar Heel. Bladenboro finishes 4-4 and will be the No. 3 seed. The two teams play again Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Tar Heel in the tournament semi-finals.
