A long-time supplier of vending items, paper products, and more is preparing to close its doors. Paul H. Sessoms & Company located at 108 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown is expected to close its doors permanently by the end of April.

The business’ owner Kendall Potter said competition from online retailers and stores such as Dollar General have taken their toll on the business.

“There’s so much competition now,” said Potter.

The business was started in the mid-1940s by Paul Sessoms and for many years has supplied Bladen County businesses and families with necessities for their vending machines, break rooms, large gatherings and parties. Potter purchased the business four years ago.

“I hated to do it,” said Potter.

He said he plans to take a brief break before he begins searching for a job.
