The 31st Annual NC Junior Beta Club Convention was held January 29-31 in Greensboro. The conference hosted over 3500 elementary and junior Beta students from across the state to compete in academic, art, talent and group events. This year’s theme was “The Power of Beta.” In the first general session, students were entertained by guest speaker, Kelly Barnes, who emphasized the impact Beta members can have with small things.

This was the seventh year ECA has competed in the NC convention, and it was their most successful year yet. Mrs. Genia Hester, the club’s sponsor, commented, “It’s been amazing to witness the determination and talent displayed by our Betas. Our membership and convention attendance tripled from last year, earning us a Convention Growth Award.” ECA will be adding 8 th grade next year; the board and staff members hope to see the Beta Club continue to grow and be successful.

ECA brought home a total of 26 awards from Greensboro, and they are already busy thinking ahead to next year, but not before planning their trip to Nationals in Kentucky this June. ECA’s awards include:

• Apparel Design Junior:  2nd place
• Black & White Photography Junior: 1st place – Kenley Smeigh
• Club Trading Pin Elementary: 5th place
• Digital Art Elementary: 4th place – Maci Sykes
• Drawing Elementary: 4th place – Emily Kallam
• Drawing Junior: 4th place – Wyatt Price
• Hand-drawn Anime Elementary: 5th place – Ava Brisson
• Hand-drawn Anime Junior: 1st place – Gavin Campbell
• Language Arts 5th Grade: 1st place – Laikyn Rogerson
• Living Literature Elementary: 1st place
• Living Literature Junior: 3rd place
• Math 4th Grade: 5th place – Zoya Patel
• Math 5th Grade: 2nd place – Alyssa McQueen
• Mixed Media Elementary: 4th place – Mary Scott Walters
• On-site Drawing: 5th place – Zoya Patel
• Painting Junior: 5th place – Laken Johnson
• Performing Arts Solo, Duo, Trio Elementary Dance: 5th place – Zoya Patel
• Performing Arts Small Group Junior: 2nd place
