The Yankees broke a 4-4 tie with 2 runs in the third and tacked on 4 more in the fourth to capture the Elizabethtown Dixie Youth Baseball Coach-Pitch Tournament Championship with a 10-5 victory Saturday over the Diamondbacks at Leinwand Park.
The Diamondbacks grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first as Colton Daly reached base, and Dawson Wright cracked a single to centerfield. Gavin Elks laced a single to center that scored Daly, and Mason Smith knocked in Wright with a single to right-centerfield.
Jackson Smith and Ryan Dove beat out infield hits in the Yankee first. Davion Lewis drove in Jackson Smith with a single, and Brice Scott’s hit plated Dove and tied the game 2-2.
Witt Gooden and Nashwan Jones beat out infield hits in the Yankee second inning. Inman Carson belted a single to rightfield that scored Gooden, and Jones dashed home on an error for a 4-2 Yankee lead.
Daly smacked a single to right in the Diamondback third inning, and Wright ripped a single to left that bounced past the leftfielder and both Daly and Wright circled the bases to tie the game 4-4.
Lewis beat out an infield hit to start the Yankee third, and Scott swatted a single down the leftfield line. Tremaine Thomas yanked a single to leftfield that scored Lewis. Javonte Smith’s fielder’s choice plated Scott and put the Yankees ahead 6-4.
Carson and Jackson Smith legged out infield hits in the Yankee fourth, and a throwing error scored Carson. Dove hammered a double to centerfield that scored Smith. Lewis’ single scored Dove, and an error on Thomas’ grounder brought home Lewis and stretched the lead to 10-4.
The Diamondbacks added a run in the sixth as Jaxon Hair led off with an infield hit and scored on Elijah Smith’s infield hit.
Lewis and Thomas both batted a perfect 3-3 to lead the Yankee hitters. Jackson Smith, Dove, Scott and Witt Gooden all batted 2-3 for the winners. Carson finished 2-4 at the plate, and Jones had the other Yankee hit.
Dove slammed the double and scored 2 runs. Lewis and Jackson Smith also scored 2 runs each, and Inman, Witt Gooden, Scott and Jones scored one run each. Dove, Lewis, Witt Gooden and Javonte Smith had one run batted in each.
Daly batted a perfect 3-3 and scored 2 runs for the Diamondbacks. Wright, Hair and Elks all finished 2-3 at the plate for the D-backs, and teammates Ethan Metz, Elijah Smith, Mason Smith and Ahmarie White connected for one hit each.
Wright scored 2 runs, and Hair scored one for the D-backs. Elks, Mason Smith and Elijah Smith drove in one run each.
The Yankees were the regular-season and tournament champions, and the Diamondbacks were the regular-season and tournament runners-up.
