ELIZABETHTOWN – Tyler McFadden’s bases-loaded walk forced home Eli Woodell with the winning run Wednesday night as the Cubs edged the Astros 2-1 in the Elizabethtown Dixie Youth Baseball Major League Tournament semifinals.

It was McFadden’s 2nd walk-off run-batted-in this week. His double Monday night drove in the game-ending run in a victory over the Braves. McFadden batted 2-2 Wednesday with a double and drove in both Cubs runs. Lyric Lawson singled for the other Cubs hit.

Eli Woodell drew a 1-out walk to begin the winning rally. After another strike-out, the Astros intentionally walked Gunner Lewis and Stryker Pait to load the bases, but McFadden walked on 5 pitches to end the game.

Daveon hammered a double to center field and scored the Astros run in the 1st inning. Landon Pusey belted a 2nd inning single for the other Astro hit.

Woodell walked to begin the Cubs 3rd inning. After Gunner Lewis was intentionally walked, Pait’s sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, and McFadden delivered a single to center that scored Woodell with the tying run. On the play Lewis was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Woodell pitched 3 innings of scoreless, hitless relief and struck out 8 batters to pick up the win for the Cubs. Colt Lewis started and pitched 2 innings for the Cubs allowing a run on 2 hits and striking out 5. Trey Wilson pitched a 3-hitter for the Astros and struck out 6 batters.

The Cubs will play the Braves in Monday night’s tournament championship game.
