KENANSVILLE – Elizabethtown’s 4- game winning streak through the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament came to an end Thursday night as West Robeson National claimed a 19-7 victory and advanced to the State Championship Series.

A 4-run fourth-inning stretched West Robeson’s lead to 11-6, and an 8-run sixth broke the game open.

After West Robeson took a 4-0 first-inning lead, Elizabethtown scored a run in the bottom of the inning. Freddy Wooten drew a 2-out walk and circled the bases on a pair of wild pitches.

West Robeson widened the gap to 7-1 in the top of the third, but Elizabethtown answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. Ayden Piland led off the inning with a single but was retired at second on Victor Campbell’s fielder’s choice.

Chase Starkloff smacked a single, and Garrett Melvin knocked in Campbell with a single. Evan Pait belted a single that scored Starkloff, and Wooten hammered a double that scored Melvin and Pait. Raymond Autry drove in Wooten with another single that sliced the lead to 7-6.

After West Robeson stretched the margin to 11-6, Elizabethtown scored their final run in the fifth. Wooten drew a walk, and Autry reached base on an error. Tyler Hill cracked a single that drove in Wooten.

Wooten doubled, scored 3 runs and drove in 2 runs. Melvin, Pait, Autry, Hill, Garrison Tatum, Piland and Starkloff connected for one hit each. Melvin, Pait, Autry and Hill drove in one run each. Melvin, Pait, Campbell and Starkloff scored one run each.

Ty Mathis worked the first 3 innings on the mound for Elizabethtown, and Coleman Tatum and Melvin both pitched in relief.

Elizabethtown finished third in the State Tournament. West Robeson National will play Southport-Oak Island in the State Championship Series.
