Elizabethtown High School Class of 1965 Celebrates Their “Jubilee” Reunion

Submitted by: John E. Morgan

Class-of-1965

On Saturday, August 29th, beginning at their old gymnasium – the only structure still existing from school days, these “early boomers” mingled on the worn, original court and sat in same chipped-but-sturdy bleachers from their youth, and could recall how this facility was then a center of constant activity, utilized for basketball, gymnastics, pep rallies, band concerts, Halloween carnivals, science fairs, sock hops, and even a one-time summer community skating rink.

The class of 1965 was considered the vanguard or first true class of Victory Babies in that almost all were conceived after either VE Day or VJ Day, marking end of WW II. They felt grateful both for parents surviving the war, and for their own survival of 50 years since graduation.

Bladen County Parks & Recreation kindly granted their wish to use this venue for a very special reunion.
