The Elizabethtown Town Council met in regular session Monday evening. Several resolutions were presented and approved regarding the requested Voluntary Annexation from Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. A resolution directing the Town Clerk to investigate a Petition received regarding voluntary annexation was approved as well as a Certificate of Sufficiency for Voluntary Annexation.

A Public Hearing date was set for March 7th for public comments/questions about the annexation. Council also approved a resolution to declare items from the Public Services and Police Departments as surplus so that items can be negotiated for private sale.

A presentation was made by Bladen Community College administration regarding CONNECT NC Bond Act. Dr. William Findt, Jeff Kornegay, and Trustee, Dennis Troy expounded the benefits that the bond will bring to Bladen County. BCC would receive $6.5 million for STEM building which would allow the college to have appropriate space to educate and train the citizens of Bladen County. Jones and Singletary Lakes will receive $651,750 and $575,250 respectively. The resolution was approved in support of the CONNECT NC Bond Act. Citizens are encouraged to vote for the bond act in the March Primary.

In administrative matters, Council approved Tax Releases, and 2015 Unpaid Tax Report; authorized advertisement of Tax Liens; approved Change Order for the Downtown Sewer Collection System Rehabilitation Project; approved the monthly Financial Report; approved option for Bridge repair on sewer outfall line over Brown’s Creek; and approved Encroachment Agreement with NCDOT for installation of encasement pipe at US 701 and NC 242.

Council received recommendations regarding appointment of an Alternate LRCOG Board Member. Howell Clark was appointed to serve as the Alternate member. Chris Adams and Maurice Williams were appointed to the Elizabethtown Planning Board.
