The Town of Elizabethtown Town Council met via online Zoom Monday evening for their regular monthly meeting. Town Manager Eddie Madden updated the Council on the progress of the Greene’s Lake Park Project. The playground is nearing completion. The bathroom work will begin this week. Benches and picnic tables are scheduled for delivery this month. Madden encouraged Council members to go by the site at the Industrial Park to see the improvements. Mayor Sylvia Campbell stated “I rode out there today and it really is looking good. I think this will be our best park facility in the town when it is completed.” Council voted to reallocate some of the budgeted grant funds to other line items within the plan as needed.

Madden also indicated that the Cemetery Project received the Notice to Proceed and work will begin in February. The Town is also working with the Paul R Brown Leadership Academy to assist them with a grant to renovate the historical gym. The automated doors have been installed at Town Hall from the funds received through the Covid Relief funding.

In keeping with the 2021-22 FY Budget process, the annual budget retreat was scheduled for Tuesday, March 9th. The purpose of the retreat is to meet with Town Staff and the public to discuss funding priorities, capital projects and community needs for the upcoming fiscal year.

In administrative matters, Council approved the 19-20 FY Budget Audit and the 21-22 FYBudget Calendar; approved Tax Releases; Budget amendment, and monthly financial report; appointed Patricia Jessup to the Zoning Board of Adjustments; approved Incentive Grant for demolition at 1109 S. The East Bladen BETA Club will be hosting a 5K Run in February. “Mission 100” will host a run at Brown’s Creek Park on March 19-21st. All of these events are subject to Covid protocols.

NCDOT announced that the 701 Bridge will be down to one lane on Wednesday morning due to a scheduled inspection.
