Hurricane Irma has been tearing through the United States after crushing the caribbean islands. Last week the historic storm was predicted to hit North Carolina hard. Gov. Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency for NC.

Some residents of the Mother County stated their concerns about the potential damager of the storm. Elizabethtown officials along with Bladen County Emergency responders helped educate citizens on how to prepare for hurricanes by passing out a hurricane checklist. Even though, Hurricane Irma did turn more to the west of the US, Bladen County has received rains and winds from its remnants.

Schools have been closed and delayed Monday, September 11th and Tuesday, September 12th due to the impact on Bladen County. Irma is almost passed over NC, but another hurricane by the name of Jose is churning out in the Atlantic.
