The Elizabethtown Town Council met in regular session Monday evening. A request was received from Elizabethtown ABC Store Manager Mark Gillespie regarding the continuation of the current ABC Control System for local liquor sales.

Mayor Sylvia Campbell stated that “local control over the sale of liquor is an important function of the Town, as well as local revenue received from the ABC store operations is important to the Town.” The Council approved the resolution in support of the current system and believes that privatization of liquor would lead to many adverse effects to the Town.

In other business, Council approved change signatures on a BB&T account; approved proposal with ECS Southeast, LLP for Fire and Rescue Squad Building Project; approved Partial Release of Options to Purchase for parcel at the Industrial Park; approved Statewide Emergency Management Mutual Aid and Agreement; approved Budget amendment and change orders as presented; and approved Tax releases and monthly budget report.

Pat DeVane, Public Works Director announced there is an Interscholastic Bike Competition at the Bike Park on March 8-10. “This is the second year the event has taken place at the Bike Park. There are over 450 youth registered to participate in the race”, stated DeVane.
