The Elizabethtown Town Council met in regular session Monday evening. Former Councilman Dr. Darrell Page presented the Council and Mayor Campbell with the Seven Seals Award. The Seven Seals Award is the broadest and most inclusive award given by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves and is presented at the discretion of the State Chair or by ESGR senior leadership. The Seven Seals Award is in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense office that develops and promotes supportive work environments for Service members in the Reserve Components through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. Dr. Page thanked the Council for their leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve the National Guard and Reserve.
A presentation was made on the proposed FY 2016-2017 Budget at the Noon work session. Council will vote on the budget during the June meeting.
A public hearing was held to garner public comments regarding a Code of Ordinances Amendment: Chapter 91: Animals (Horses to be Permitted in the Town Limits).
Later in the evening Council adopted the amendment as presented.
Council approved 2 Proclamations: Recognize May 15th – May 21st as National Police Week and Older Americans Awareness Month – May 2016. Council also approved a Resolution for Surplus Property Disposal by either Private Sale or GovDeals for the Public Services property and a Resolution approving donation of two desks to Bladen County Fire Training Facility.
In administrative matters, Council approved the FY 2016-2020 Capital Improvement Plan; appointed to the Zoning Ordinance Update Committee, reappointed Virgie McKiver to the Elizabethtown Housing Authority and appointed Bobby Kinlaw to the Elizabethtown Planning Board; approved tax releases and the monthly financial report; and approved Butler’s Up Janitorial Services’ Proposal for the Municipal Building, Farmers Market and the Fire Department for a one year contract of $1,400 per month, which includes all supplies and equipment
Eddie Madden, Town Manager reminded Council of the Police Department’s annual Kid’s Appreciation Day scheduled for May 7th behind the Municipal Building.
