According to NC DOT officials, the Elwell Ferry near Kelly is closed due to high water, According to Kenneth Clark with the NC Department of Transportation.
The Elwell Ferry is the oldest cable operated ferry in North Carolina. The ferry connects NC Highway 87 to NC 53 in the vicinity of the community of Kelly. The ferry has operated continuously for about 111 years.
