The roadway to Elwell Ferry remains closed due to high water. The ferry, which has been in operation since 1905, connects NC 53 and NC 87 in the vicinity of Kelly.
According to the National Weather Service advisory, the flood warning for the Cape Fear River had been extended, though it did not say when the river is expected to crest or how long the flood warning is expected to last.
According to the National Weather Service website, the Cape Fear River had reached 50.56 feet on Saturday at Lock and Dam No. 3 near Tar Heel and was forecast to reach 51 feet by Sunday. Flood stage for the Lock and Dam No. 3 is 42 feet.
The William O. Huske Lock and Dam No. 1 near Riegelwood was observed to be at about 21 feet on Saturday according to the National Weather Service website. Flood stage for Lock and Dam No. 1 is reported to be 24 feet, according to the National Weather Service website.
