The N.C. Department of transportation announced Thursday morning that Elwell Ferry has reopened. The cable-operated ferry had been closed since Monday because of high water levels.
The ferry crosses the Cape Fear River and connects N.C. 87 and N.C. 53 connecting Carvers Creek and Kelly. It’s located at 2700 Elwell Ferry Road.
Other road-related announcements for Bladen County include:
• US 701 Business (College Street) is closed at the CSX railroad in Clarkton through Thursday, March 9 at 5 p.m. so that CSX can perform track maintenance. Use US 701 Bypass as an alternate route.
• SR1003 (Faulkner Road) at NC 211 is closed for crossline repair through March 17 at 5 p.m.
• US 701N: Both lanes of the northbound side over the Cape Fear River are closed. Traffic will be rerouted to the southbound lanes. The closure has a wide load traffic restriction.
