The Emerau Bladen Charter School is hosting an open house Friday and Saturday this week. The Elizabethtown – White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce helped welcome the new school to town with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at their corporate office on Broad Street in Elizabethtown.

The charter school is preparing to open its doors by August 2017, according Dunaway. The school will have a website and mobile device app to assist in keeping parents informed. Dunaway said the two platforms will launch soon.

Emerau Bladen was one of eight Charter Schools to receive approval in August from the NC State Board of Education to open for the 2017-18 academic year.

Dunaway said the school will initially serve grades K-6 and add an additional grade each year until it becomes a K-12 school.

Dunaway said that individuals can come to the open house and learn more about the school, its curriculum, the draft school calendar, and the uniforms.

The continuation of the open house will be from 9 am until 1 pm Saturday, Nov. 5, at their office which will be located at 118 West Broad Street in Elizabethtown.

Dunaway said Charter Schools are tuition-free public schools of choice that are obligated to the State Board of Education. Charter Schools are held accountable through the State assessment and accountability system, according to the Office of Charter Schools in Raleigh.
