MARTIN LUTHER KING JR  Plans are underway for the 31st annual parade honoring the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. which will be held in Elizabethtown, North Carolina on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

National Martin Luther King Day celebrates the life and accomplishment of Rev. Dr.  Martin Luther King, Jr.  MLK promoted Civil Rights through nonviolent civil disobedience.  He is perhaps best known for his “I have a dream…” speech in 1963.

The national theme for 2019 is “We Are All One Humanity”, a subject that Dr. King often contemplated.  A Methodist Student at a Leadership Conference Address delivered in 1964, Lincoln, Nebraska once said the following  “All I’m saying is simply this: that all life is interrelated, and in a real sense we are all courting an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. For some strange reason, I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.”   This occurred fifty-four years ago, however is still relevant today.

Community, civic and school organizations, bands, step-teams, drill teams, queens and/or kings etc. are invited to participate.  Call (910) 645-4995 for float or any parade information.

The line-up starts 9:00 AM at 805 West Broad Street; Elizabethtown, North Carolina.
