GolfFor some people the best month to play golf is October. The weather is great, very little humidity, and Vineyard Golf Course is in really good shape. Recently a group of twenty or so golfers from Jacksonville came to play Vineyard due to the fact that the recent rains had made their home course unplayable.

A group of over fifty senior golfers played this week and comments such as the following were heard: “You have really got a lot of grass out there”…”I have never seen a course in any better shape.”…”What an enjoyable course to play. The layout is great.”…”I have never putted on any better greens’.”

The Vineyard Golf Anniversary Tournament is now scheduled for October 31. There will be a 10 a.m. shotgun start. This tournament is a four man Captain’s Choice event. Entry fee is $250 per team with proceeds going to Southeastern Carolina Crossroads, a local nonprofit helping people of all ages fight off the evils of alcohol and drug addiction.

Hole in one prizes include two cars, $10,000 cash and a Kubota. A $5,000 putting contest ($10 entry fee) will be held. If you are interested in entering a team call Pam or John at 910-247-6132.

A couple of low scores have been recorded recently. North Carolina House of Representative William Brisson shot a 76. Charles DeVane, who has been out several months with shoulder surgery, shot a 75.
