Bladen County Farm Bureau is accepting applications for five academic scholarships and its Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders summer camp

“An integral part of fulfilling Farm Bureau’s mission is to make leadership development available to our members,” the firm said in a news release. “We feel that education is an important component of leadership. Providing opportunities for our future leaders to obtain an education is important to us.”

Scholarships available include:

** The Cecil McClure Memorial Scholarship provides $500 per year for four years of study at a college, university or community college.

** The Farm Bureau Scholarship provides $1,5000 for one year of study at a college, university or community college.

** The R. Flake Shaw Scholarship provides $4,000 per year for four years of study at a college or university.

** Two new scholarships are being awarded each spring valued at $1,000 per year for two years of study at a community college.

Applicants may apply through Bladen County Farm Bureau and applications must be returned by March 14. Eligibility requirements for scholarships will be based on financial need, satisfactory scholastic record, leadership potential and good character. Applicants must enroll in agriculture or in an agricultural related field. For information, contact Tammy Guyton at (910)645-2042.

Farm Bureau’s Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders is scheduled June 11-16. Applicants must be a rising high school senior and must be in the upper 1/3 of their class. Those selected should have an interest in agriculture and a desire to further their education in an agricultural related field. Applications must be completed and returned to Bladen County Farm Bureau by April 2.
