Today is the deadline to have your 2018  income taxes filed. If you have not already done so, you have until midnight tonight (April 15th) to get your return in the mail.

If you are not ready to file your tax return by April 15th, you can file for an extension, according to the Internal Revenue Service website. If approved, an extension can give you another six months to prepare and file your return.

Instead of mailing your tax return you can also electronically file your tax return. To do this go to www.irs.gov and click on the tab labeled “file” and follow the directions to submit your tax return electronically.

Once you have filed your return you can pay any taxes that are due online. To submit a payment for your tax return, go to www.irs.gov and click on the tab marked “pay” and follow the directions to submit your payment.  You can also use this website to request a plan that will allow you to make payments on the tax amount which is due if you cannot pay it all at one time.

Also, today is the last day to make a contribution to a traditional IRA, Roth IRA, and Health Savings Account, as well as a 401k account for the 2018 tax year, according to the website The Balance.

If you miss the deadline for filing your tax return, file it as soon as possible. You may have to pay additional penalties and fees for filing late, which will be added to your tax balance owed.
