Firefighters at Bladen County Court HouseTuesday evening around 8:45 pm the power went out in Elizabethtown and Firefighters responded to a fire call at Bladen County Court House. According to Nick West, Chief of Elizabethtown Fire Department, after the power went out there was an electrical problem with the generator which caused a mechanical problem with a motor in an air conditioning unit causing a small fire in the unit.

Elizabethtown, Bladenboro, Dublin, Clarkton, and White Lake Fire Departments responded to the call at the court house. Fightfighters cut the power off to the air conditioning unit located in the basement in the broiler room to extinguish the fire according to the those on the scene.

Duke Energy had a power outage for at least 5,000 customers, according to the utility’s outage map. About 3,000 of those customers were in Elizabethtown and Dublin, 1,800 in Bladenboro and 800 in the Clarkton and Abbotsburg area. Power was restored shortly before 10 p.m., according to the power company.

No further damages from the fire or power outage are known at this time.
