Fire officials have issued their ruling in a December fire that occurred at the former Accent Dye Works building on West Broad Street in Elizabethtown.

Officials stated the devastating fire  was the result of an issue with the electrical panel box.  Elizabethtown Fire Department Chief Nick West said, “There is no indication from our investigation of any arson.”

West said the investigation has revealed the fire began at the main electrical panel box for the building. The fire was contained to the office area and in the back part of the building.

The fire was reported on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at about 3 p.m. A massive plume of smoke could be seen from as far away as the NC 87 Bypass and from downtown Elizabethtown as a result of the fire.

Chief West said the building suffered significant damage as a result of the fire. According to Bladen Tax Records, the building is owned by Rico Daniels Family Entertainment of Fayetteville. The building was listed for sale at the time of the fire.

Many years ago, the building was once home to a ford dealership.
