Flags were lowered to half-staff on Monday in honor of National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day. The day is set aside to honor and remember our local, state and federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect our citizens and those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

According to flagexpress.com one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty in the United States every 58 hours. National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day was signed into law by President John F Kennedy in 1962.

A National Law Enforcement Memorial Walls in Washington, DC pays tribute to fallen law enforcement officers. According to Wikipedia more than 19,000 names of law enforcement officers who have their life in the line of duty are displayed on the wall.
