The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a flood warning for the Cape Fear River at William O. Huske Lock and Dam 3 near the Bladen/Cumberland County line beginning Friday afternoon until further notice.

At 8 p.m. Wednesday, the river was measured at 34.6 feet. Flood stage is 42 feet.

The National Weather Service forecast the river to continue to rise above flood stage early Friday afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 49.8 feet early Sunday morning.

At 50.0 feet, extensive lowland flooding will occur along the river. The wildlife boat ramp at Tar Heel Ferry Road is expected to be inaccessible.

Thursday’s forecast from the National Weather Service calls for an additional 2 to 3 inches of rain.
