Flowers Foods is recalling hot dog and hamburger buns and other bakery products because they may contain foreign material, more specifically pieces of plastic. These hard plastic bits may pose a choking hazard. No reports of injury or adverse reactions have been reported to date in connection with this recall. The company initiated the recall after finding the plastic in production equipment.

The bakery items were distributed at the retail level under a variety of brand names in these states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. You can see the long list of recalled products, along with the UPC number, best by date, and lot number at the FDA web site.

These recalled products were sold under these brand names: 7-Eleven, Bravo, CBC Nathans, Clover Valley, Family Style, Flowers, Food Depot, Great Value, Grissom’s, Hitchcock’s, Home Pride, Ideal, IGA, Ingles, Laura Lynn, L’Oven, Market Pantry, Members Mark, Natural Grain, Nature’s Own, Oven Fresh, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, SE Grocers, Sedano’s, Sunbeam, WM (Pan Para Sandwich), and Wonder. Some of the recalled products include Hamburger Buns, Butter Hamburger Buns, Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns, and Hot Dog Buns. The best by dates on these products range from July 17 – July 19, 2019.

Please check the list of recalled products and your pantry carefully to see if you have purchased any of them. If you have, do not eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the store where you purchased them for a refund.
