Bladenboro rolled past county rival Tar Heel 46-6 and East Bladen outlasted East Columbus 14-6 in double overtime Wednesday in middle school football.
The Bulldogs evened their season record at 1-1. Tar Heel is winless in three games.
Gaston Russ led the Bladenboro offense with three touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions. Jace Lesane had two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. Malcolm Melvin added a score and a 2-point conversion. Coach Roger Carroll’s defense did not allow a score.
East Bladen remained unbeated with its second victory in a thriller at Lake Waccamaw. East Bladen is a combination of players from Clarkton School of Discovery and Elizabethtown Middle.
The games were moved up a day because of expected rain in Thursday’s weather forecast.
The three Bladen middle school teams return to action Thursday, November 21 with East Bladen hosting South Columbus at Elizabethtown Middle School, Bladenboro at home against West Columbus and Tar Heel at Whiteville. Kickoffs are scheduled for 6 p.m.
