LAKE WACCAMAW- Sophmore Monzelle Campbell ran for 2 touchdowns Tuesday night to lead East Columbus to a 42-14 Three Rivers Conference victory over West Bladen.

The Knights marched 54 yards in 7 plays on their opening drive after the Gators had taken a 7-0 lead. Junior quarterback Tyre Boykin broke loose for a 25-yard run to the East 26 yardline then picked up 7 yards on the next play.

Junior Tra’shawn Ballard banged inside for 5 yards and a first down. Boykin darted 6 yards, before Ballard powered into the end zone from 8 yards out for the touchdown to pull West to within 7-6.

Campbell dashed 25 yards for a touchdown that put East Columbus up 13-6 at halftime.

A West Bladen fumble at the Knight 35 yardline led to the next Gator touchdown. A 2-point conversion run padded the lead to 21-6. Two minutes later East Columbus scored again to grow the lead to 28-6.

Campbell scampered 30 yards for another touchdown, and the 2-point conversion pushed the lead to 36-6. East tacked on another score to up the count to 42-6.

The Knights covered 40 yards in 3 plays for their second touchdown. Boykin connected with senior Kerron Washington on a 26-yard pass play that moved the ball to the Gator 14 yardline.

Boykin scooted 12 yards to the two yardline then carried into the end zone on the next play for the touchdown. Boykin tossed a 2-point conversion pass to Washington to trim the final margin to 42-14.

Boykin carried the ball 12 times for 64 yards and a touchdown. He also completed 3 of 6 passes for 31 yards. Washington had 2 receptions for 27 yards. Ballard rushed 9 times for 21 yards and a touchdown.

East Columbus recovered three kick-offs in the game including the opening kick-off and back-to-back kick-offs in the third quarter. As a result the Knights were only able to have 6 offensive possessions and only ran 31 plays in the game. 

The Knights will entertain St. Pauls Friday night.
