FootballAfter two weeks on the road and having to work around the rain and postponements, East Bladen’s Eagles look to regain some normalcy as they host Pender on Homecoming Night.

The visiting Patriots are on short rest as they played Tuesday and lost at Midway 39-0. Pender’s lone win was a 20-19 overtime victory over North Duplin.

Pender has been outscored by an average margin of 43-12. Their other conference loss was a 64-13 pounding by Clinton. The Patriot offense is led by sophomore speedster Latrell Brown and junior Justin Hooper.

The Pender defense features linebacker Kreitzer Hayden and senior end Newkirk Antonio.

The Eagles are looking to right the ship after Saturday’s first loss of the season 49-19 at Clinton. “We’re working on getting better and stronger,” said Coach Robby Priest.

The Eagles also hope to get junior Eian Hines back from an ankle injury. Eian had rushed for 535 yards and 6 touchdowns before missing the Clinton game.

His twin brother, Ethan Hines, was the Eagles’ one bright spot against Clinton rushing for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ethan returned a kick-off 91 yards for another touchdown and now has 3 kick return TD’s this season.

Ethan Hines leads the Eagles with 656 yards rushing and 9 touchdowns.

Junior Derrick Burney leads the Eagle defense with 43 tackles. Senior lineman Chris Cromartie (38 tackles) and sophomore Xavia McDowell (36 tackles) are other stand-outs on defense for East.
