RED SPRINGS – Lee McLean rushed for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Red Springs to a 27-14 Three Rivers Conference football victory over West Bladen Friday night.

McLean banged into the end zone from a yard out with 2:32 left in the first period then ran for the 2-point conversion and an 8-0 lead.

Early in the second period McLean scored from 3 yards out on a fourth down play that gave the Red Devils a 14-0 lead.

The Knights answered 3 minutes later as senior B. J. Drake caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from sophmore quarterback Tyre Boykin. Freshman Joseph Masaid nailed the extra point kick to pull West Bladen to within 14-7.

Turnovers kept both teams quiet in the third quarter, but Red Devil quarterback Denym McKeithan connected with Traveze Billinger on a 35-yard touchdown pass with 10:29 left in the game. Senior Jerome Bass kicked the extra point for a 21-7 lead.

McLean bolted 6 yards for his final touchdown with 5:49 remaining that grew the lead to 27-7.

Boykin broke loose on the keeper for a 12-yard touchdown run with 2:32 on the clock. Masaid drilled the conversion kick to close the gap to 27-14.

“They were bigger and stronger than us up front on both sides of the ball and they wore us down,” said Knight Coach Kris Williams. “We’ve just got to do better.”

Boykin completed 8 of 14 passes for 58 yards and ran for 17 yards to lead the Knight offense. The Knights totaled 122 yards rushing and had 180 total yards.

Senior Dayvon Swindell led the Knight defense with 7 tackles and an interception. Freshman Kendall Johnson was credited with 6 tackles. Senior Jalen Drew made 5 tackles and recovered a fumble. Seniors Michael Hepburn and Javeonne Brunson finished with 5 tackles each. Drake and senior Jvahn Thomas added 4 tackles each.
