LUMBERTON – East Bladen’s Eagles dominated the statistics Wednesday, but South View rode a pair of pass completions to a 7-0 victory in the Battle of the Carolinas Football Jamboree.

Coach Robby Priest’s Eagles held a 38-13 advantage in offensive snaps, limited the Tigers to 15 yards rushing and outgained South View 127-59 in total yards.

On their 1st possession of the game the Eagles marched 44 yards to the Tiger 17 yard line. Senior Javius Brooks scrambled 9 yards to pick up one first down, and senior Robert McKoy darted 12 yards for another first down. However the quarterback slipped down for an 8-yard loss that halted the drive.

The Eagles opened the 2nd half with a pair of first downs but an illegal procedure penalty bogged down the drive at the South View 44.

The Tigers covered 56 yards in 4 plays on their 1st possession of the 2nd half. Senior Jamareese Ray hauled in a 14-yard pass reception, and senior Issac Evans dashed 30 yards with a swing pass. Two plays later Evans powered into the end zone from 4 yards out for the only touchdown of the game.

After the Tiger touchdown, the Eagles reeled off 4 first downs as they drove 46 yards to the South View 27. Senior Raymond Autry raced 11 yards for one first down, and senior Corey Ballard picked up another first down with a 7-yard run.

However, a holding penalty backed the Eagles up to the 40 yard line, and the Tigers intercepted a pass at their 30 yard line to seal the verdict with 28 seconds on the clock.

“The defense looked good and the running game looked good,” said Priest. “We have a ways to go to get in shape, and the passing game needs work.”

Senior Timothy McLean rushed for 39 yards on 13 carries to lead the Eagle runners. Ballard totaled 27 yards rushing on 7 attempts.

East Bladen will travel to Midway Friday night to take on North Johnston in the Sampson County Jamboree. Game time is 5:30.
