West Bladen’s Knights showed offensive improvement Tuesday night in their scrimmage at Wilmington Ashley, but according to Coach Jon Sherman there is still work to be done on defense.

“Defensively we aren’t quite there yet,” said Coach Sherman. “We have some work to do. We made some mistakes, but we had great effort. The kids played hard.”

Senior quarterback Tyre Boykin broke loose on the read option play and scooted 45 yards for a Knight touchdown on the third play of the scrimmage. West Bladen mounted 3 more drives in the scrimmage including a late drive to the one-yard line, but couldn’t punch it in.

Boykin completed 9 of 14 passes. “Tyre made some good throws, and the receivers caught the ball well,” noted Sherman. “We ran the ball well, and I was pleased with our physicality in the running game.”

The Knights will open their season on August 23 when they host South Brunswick.
