DUBLIN – West Bladen and Midway battled to a 6-6 tie Friday night before lightning suspended their non-conference football game. The game will resume Monday night at West with 2:27 left in the first quarter.

A 37-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson Calcutt to tight end Colby Pope capped a 66-yard, 6-play Raider drive with 6:51 on the first period clock. The extra point kick sailed wide right.

The Knights needed only 3 plays and exactly one minute to cover 80 yards and tie the score 6-6 as senior B. J. Drake popped through the middle, veered left and raced 71 yards for the touchdown. The extra point kick was deflected and fell just short.

Knight senior Jonathan Robinson threw the ball-carrier for consecutive losses of 1 and 3 yards on the next Midway possession. Seniors Zion Barrett and James Weaks dropped Calcutt for a 4-yard loss on third down.

The Midway punter couldn’t handle a high snap and senior Jvahn Thomas and junior Gabriel McDowell dropped him for a 15-yard loss that turned the ball over to the Knights at the Raider 33 yardline.

A holding penalty had the Knights facing a first and nineteen situation at the 30 yardline when lightning stopped play.

Drake carried 5 times for 98 yards as the Knights held a 114-29 edge in rushing yards and a 114-66 edge in total yards when the game was halted.
