West Bladen High School LogoELIZABETHTOWN – Senior James Moore ran for 110 yards and 3 touchdowns Friday night as West Bladen outscored West Columbus six touchdowns to two in the East Bladen Jamboree.

West Bladen Coach Todd Pait was not happy with his team’s ground attack after Wednesday’s night’s scrimmage at South Brunswick. Friday night Coach Pait was a lot happier with his team’s ground game. “It’s obvious that we worked on the running game and got it fixed. We tweaked some things.”

Moore ripped off runs of 12, 10 and 11 yards on his first 3 carries of the night. Junior Shaq Johnson gained 6 more yards, before junior Davon Swindell took an inside hand-off and darted into the end zone from 2 yards out.

Senior quarterback Weston Pidgeon rambled 8 yards to begin the next Knight possession. Moore galloped 15 for a first down then bounced off the left side and bolted 17 yards to the end zone.

Neither team scored on their next possession, and after an intermission, West Bladen junior Bryan Haro intercepted a Viking pass.

Junior B. J. Drake ran for 6 yards then broke loose on a 28-yard run. Penalites nullified an 8-yard touchdown run by Pidgeon, and a 20-yard touchdown down run by Moore, before Swindell caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Pidgeon.

The West Columbus quarterback who supplied most of their offense by scrambling raced 37 yards for the first Viking touchdown.

The Knights answered as Moore dashed 9 yards, and Johnson flew 31 yards around the end for a touchdown.

West Columbus scored their second touchdown on a 20-yard screen pass.

A leaping catch by Swindell of a 25-yard Pidgeon pass set up the final Knight touchdown. Moore capped the drive with a 3-yard TD run.

“We looked pretty good tonight,” said Coach Pait. “We still got some stuff to work on, but I am happy.”

West Bladen will open their season Friday night at South Robeson.
