WHITEVILLE – E.J. McLeod and Brandon Tyson combined for 5 touchdowns to lead Whiteville to a 49-14 non-conference football victory over East Bladen Friday night.

McLeod ended the 1st half with an interception return for a touchdown that pushed Whiteville’s lead to 28-8 then scored the last 2 touchdowns of the game on a 64-yard fumble return and a 51-yard run from scrimmage.

Tyson scored a 2nd quarter touchdown on a 1-yard run 20 seconds before intermission then rambled 54 yards for a 3rd period TD. Tyson also ran for a 2-point conversion and finished the game with 88 yards rushing on 8 carries.

Senior Sherman Monroe capped an East drive by blasting into the end zone from a yard out with 3:04 left before halftime. Senior quarterback Javius Brooks tossed a 2-point conversion pass to his brother, sophomore Masion Brooks, that sliced the Whiteville lead to 14-8.

Javius Brooks threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to senior Nazire Smith in the 4th quarter to trim the margin to 34-14. Smith caught 4 passes for 97 yards. Javius Brooks completed 4 of 10 passes for 97 yards but had 2 interceptions.

Masion Brooks led the Eagle runners with 54 yards on 11 carries. Monroe gained 42 yards on 13 attempts and ran for a touchdown. Tim McLean picked up 32 yards on 11 carries.

Shaheem Shipman led the Wolfpack with 92 yards rushing and a touchdown on 12 attempts. Zion Wilson scored the 1st Whiteville touchdown and totaled 71 yards rushing.

The Eagles, now 1-2, will travel to Wilmington Laney Friday.
