A beloved Carvers Creek Fire Chief passed away on Thursday, March 21 due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 87 and Elwell Ferry Road.

Former Fire Chief Marion Bracey’s vehicle turned on highway 87 and was struck by a log truck at the Elwell Ferry Road intersection according to Bladen County Coroner Kenneth Clark. Bracey succumbed to his injuries at the scene before he could be transported for medical attention, Clark said.  Bracey served the Carvers Creek Volunteer Fire Department for over thirty years Clark according to Clark.

The accident happened around 5 p.m.

Bracey retired from the fire department around 2010 or 2011 and he also retired from International Paper Company in Riegelwood. Clark asks for prayers for the Carvers Creek community due to the loss they have suffered due to the passing of Former Fire Chief Bracey.
