The building which once housed the Elizabethtown Rescue Squad on Mercer Mill Road is no more. The building was damaged by flood waters during Hurricane Matthew.

Currently, the rescue squad is sharing space with the Elizabethtown Fire Department at their building located on Swanzy Street. Plans are under way to construct a new building on East Broad Street where Jessup Motors once stood. The proposed building would have accommodations for both the rescue squad and the fire department.

The construction of the new fire and rescue station is being funded by a Disaster Recovery Grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation. The cost of the new building is estimated to cost $1.5 million.

The future plans for the current fire station on Swanzy Street calls for the Public Works Department to move into that space and utilize it for office and shop space. The current Public Works building on Swanzy Street is proposed to function as a garage.

Nothing is proposed to be built on the lot of the former Elizabethtown Rescue Squad building on Mercer Mill Road due to the potential of flooding.
