West Bladen High School LogoWest Bladen Coach Travis Pait has announced that the fourth annual Woodmen Life Christmas Tournament will be held at West Bladen on December 21, 22, and 23.

A strong field of Whiteville, Fairmont, East Bladen, Midway, Southern Lee, Hoke County, East Columbus and the host and defending champion West Bladen Knights will compete in the boys basketball tournament. West Bladen defeated Fairmont 75-60 in last year’s championship game.

“We are again happy to be hosting this event,” said Coach Pait. “The seven teams that will be joining us are all well coached and will certainly be contenders in their respective leagues.  The level of competition will certainly help prepare all of the participants for conference play.”

“We would like to thank Mr. Joe Walters and Woodmen Life for their participation as title sponsors of this event,” continued Pait. “Woodmen is such a great organization who are always trying to give back to the community.”

“Woodmen Life is very excited to be involved with an event like this that benefits so many young people,” said Woodmen Life state manager Joe Walters. “All of the communities involved have a high rate of Woodmen members, which makes this a great venue for us to continue to actively strengthen our communities.”

“Woodmen has for a long time seen the value of team sports on our young people,” added Walters. “Many lessons are taught and learned during this time in our youth’s lives and Woodmen wants to be part of this process.  We believe that this tournament gives us the chance to do just that.”

Woodmen Life is a fraternal benefit society dedicated to protecting its members and strengthening its communities. According to their website, “Woodmen Life has been working with young people for more than one hundred years. Although the world has changed dramatically during the past century, the basic core of our basic youth activities has remained the same;  it’s all about helping kids grow up to be and do their best.’
