The incoming freshman class gathered today at West Bladen High School to spend the morning getting oriented with West Bladen and many of the faculty and staff that will be there to help them in their first year of high school.

Students were welcomed by Rodney Smith, Assistant Principal, and then students divided into different groups where activities were available for them. Ursela Wooten, Assistant Principal, led a scavenger hunt that helped students learn to negotiate the new school, while other groups played a game of Clue to open locks that would offer prizes for their “critical thinking” skills.

“We want to make connections with our new students to open the door for bigger connections with our parents and our community,” said Smith.

The Booster Club was also present today allowing students to sign up for fall sports and speaking to parents about booster club membership. “It takes a community to raise these children,” said Tracy Smith, Booster Club Secretary. “We will be available during both Open House nights. Freshman Open House will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm and all other grades will have Open House on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm. We hope to add some new members to help support athletics in the school.”

The students present were a great group of young adults and West Bladen is happy to welcome them into their numbers.
