On Thursday, April 13th, 1989, the Clarkton Lady Blue Devils defeated the Tar Heel Lady Panthers, winning 11-10 in the Southern 8 Conference.
The game was tied with an 8-8 score at the end of the seventh inning. Panthers then scored two runs at the top of the eighth to take a 10-8.
Three walks and three singles in the bottom of the eight gave Clarkton two runs and left the bases loaded with two outs when Pat Atkinson walked to score Cindy Blanks for the game-winning run.
Robin Tatum and Lisa Taylor combined to give up eight hits, walked 11, and struck out two. Donna Dennis picked up the win for Clarkton as she allowed 15 hits, walked five, and struck out one.
