A retired Bladen County Sheriff’s Deputy will be laid to rest today. The funeral for retired deputy Joe Kelly is scheduled for 12 noon today (Thursday, March 22) at Mt. AME Zion Church located at 807 MLK Drive in Elizabethtown.
Mr. Kelly is a US Army veteran and also served with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office from 1971 until his retirement in 1994. He served as one of the first school resource officers to serve in the county.
Flags will remain at half-staff at the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office in Elizabethtown through Friday.
