The Bladen Recreation Department’s first year of Future Stars Basketball concluded on a successful night Wednesday with the kids playing a full game.
“This year went pretty good with this being the first year for Future Stars basketball,” said Program Coordinator Dom Whittington. “All the kids seem to have enjoyed it and I heard a lot of positive things from parents.”
“By letting the 6 year olds play by themselves and not with the 7 & 8 year olds like we used to do in the past, I believe it helped the 6 year-olds be able to learn the game better versus them playing with 7 & 8 year olds,” continued Whittington. “They were able to learn more of the basic fundamentals. Hopefully with all the success we had this year, next year the numbers will grow.”
Participating in the Future Stars program this year were: John High Jr., Raja Lawrence-Davis, Dayquan Williams, Jonny Basilio, Damian Maynor, Elijah Bullard, Julian McLaney, Joshua Crumb, Prince Powell, Willie Washington Jr., Waverly Williams IV, Johnnie Adams, Tommy Metz, and Key’Shawn Jessup.
