Garrett German of Elizabethtown, NC was recently inducted into this year’s University of Mount Olive Athletics Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements as a UMO Trojan baseball player. German played right field for the Trojan team in the 1998-99 seasons.

Garrett German, who graduated from UMO, was the 1999 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Baseball Player of the Year and was named to the 1999 All-South Atlantic Region First Team. He was also recognized as the UMO Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year in 1999. German was a model of consistency at the plate batting in 76 runs in his senior year with a .386 batting average, which is among some of the highest stats in UMO history. Mount Olive compiled an 82-32 record during German’s two seasons, winning a conference championship and earning a spot in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional both years. The Trojans were regional runners-up in 1998. Mount Olive posted a 48-9 record in 1999, a then-school record for most wins in a season and still the third highest win total. In German’s 1999 season, the Trojans also set an unbeaten record for the most consecutive games won in a season, a 25 game winning streak.

“We are thrilled to be honoring another outstanding Hall of Fame class,” said University of Mount Olive Vice President for Athletics Jeff Eisen. “Garrett [is one of] the top baseball players to ever play at Mount Olive. This year’s class is the 10th Hall of Fame Class and brings the total number of individual inductees up to 39.

The Induction Ceremony took place Saturday, November 21, at the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center on the UMO campus. In attendance to celebrate German’s acceptance of this prestigious honor, were his wife and children, Vanessa, Levi, and Noah. His parents Zebbie and Janice German of Bladenboro, and sister Roxanne Brisson were also present. Garrett German currently works as a Park Ranger at Jones Lake State Park.
