ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson and sophmore Patience Ward combined for 29 points to lead East Bladen’s Lady Eagles to a 38-34 non-conference girls basketball victory over North Brunswick Tuesday night.

Moore-Peterson fired in 16 points to lead all scorers, while Ward filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, 8 steals and 8 rebounds.

Junior Ashley Hardin grabbed 8 rebounds for the winners, and Erica McKoy scored 5 points in her first game at East after transferring from West Bladen.

The teams battled on even terms through the first quarter that ended with North ahead 9-8. The Lady Scorpions used a 10-5 run to stretch their lead to 19-13.

East Bladen trimmed the margin to 23-19 after three periods, before the Lady Eagles pulled out the victory with a 19-11 fourth quarter surge.

Junior Cailen Goodman and sophmore Lydia Bradshaw shared scoring honors for North Brunswick with 15 points each.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 and will open conference play at home on December 1 against Whiteville.
