ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Patience Ward poured in 13 points during a 27-0 second-quarter blitz that propelled East Bladen to a 46-20 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over East Columbus Tuesday night.

East Columbus’ Lazaydia Flowers scored all 8 East Columbus points in the first period as the Lady Gators edged in front 8-7. Ward and freshman Maegan Burney threw in baskets, and senior Lorna Mendell sank 2 free throws, and junior Lily Lin hit one to keep East Bladen within a point.

Ward fired in 5 baskets and 3 free throws to spark the Lady Eagle rally. Mendell dropped in 2 baskets, and Burney, senior Abbie Cross, freshman AnnaGrey Heustess and sophomores Mya McDonald and Alexus Mitchell tossed in a basket each as East Bladen took a 34-8 halftime lead.

Baskets from Ward, Mendell, Cross and junior Katie Evans pushed the East Bladen lead to 42-14 at the third quarter break. Heustess worked the paint for 2 more baskets in the final period.

Ward led all scorers with 17 points. Mendell followed with 8 points, and Heustess finished with 6 points. Flowers led East Columbus with 12 points, and teammate Sierra Strickland tallied 6 points.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles, now 5-1 in league play and 10-3 overall, will host Fairmont Wednesday night.
