ROCKY POINT – Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson fired in 20 points Saturday to lead East Bladen to a 50-27 Four County Conference girls basketball victory over Heide Trask.

Senior Emily Scott tossed in a pair of baskets in the first period, and junior Shardajah Brown and sophmore Ashley Hardin added baskets as the Lady Eagles grabbed a 10-4 lead. Moore-Peterson sank 2 free throws in the quarter.

Moore-Peterson took charge in the second quarter, nailing a 3-point bomb and connecting for 2 more baskets and 2 free throws. Freshman Patience Ward threw in 2 baskets and a free throw, Brown buried a 3-point shot, and Hardin put in another basket as the lead grew to 29-17.

The East Bladen defense held Trask to a single point in the third quarter as a 17-1 Lady Eagle blitz ballooned the lead to 46-18. Moore-Peterson bombed in another 3-ball and tacked on 2 more baskets and 4 free throws. Ward drove for 2 baskets and 2 free throws, and Hardin contributed another basket.

Baskets by freshman Lorna Mendell, Ward and Kaley Smith plus a free throw by Anna Kate White wrapped up the Eagle scoring in the fourth quarter.

Ward filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Hardin finished with 6 points and 9 rebounds. Brown totaled 5 points, and Scott grabbed 7 rebounds and had 5 steals. Moore-Peterson captured 5 rebounds and had 4 steals, and senior Yolanda Coston was credited with 5 steals.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles, now 8-2 in league play and 16-4 overall, will host Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday after the exam break.
