ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen opened the game with a 17-point blitz, and the Lady Eagle defense came up with 22 steals en route to a 52-20 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over West Columbus.
Junior Alexus Mitchell and sophomore Maegan Burney threw in 3 baskets each during East Bladen’s opening spurt. Sophomore AnnaGrey Heustess pumped in a basket and a free throw, and junior Mya McDonald added a basket as the lead reached 17-0.

Mitchell buried a 3-point shot, and McDonald, Heustess, Burney, sophomore Karli Priest and sophomore Makayla Dixon tossed in a basket each as the Lady Eagle lead grew to 30-5 at halftime.
Heustess sank 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the 3rd quarter, and Priest popped in a pair of baskets. Senior Katie Evans added a basket to pad the East lead to 42-12.
Priest nailed a pair of 3-point shots in the final quarter for the winners. Freshman Zoe Smith flipped in a basket, and senior Lily Lin cashed in 2 free throws.
Priest led the East Bladen scoring with 12 points and also contributed 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Heustess followed her with 11 points and 3 steals. Mitchell finished with 9 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Burney tallied 8 points.
McDonald turned in another solid game with 7 steals, 5 assists and 4 points. Dixon grabbed 4 rebounds. Freshman Tierra Braddy topped all scorers with 14 points for West Columbus.
Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles, now 3-1 in league play and 5-1 in overall, will host West Bladen Wednesday at 4:30 in a non-conference game.
